The Peace Village San José has to live! |

The IGF (Institute for Global Peace Work/Tamera, Portugal) informs and asks for help:
The inhabitants of the peace village San José de Apartadó in Colombia are in the greatest danger. Since June 2005 the Colombian government began sending messages to organisations abroad in which they are advised against supporting the peace village San José in any way. The reason: cooperation with the guerrilla, that means: “terrorism”! The accusation to have contacts with the guerrilla is confirmed with a video in which several young people appear as fictitious witnesses. This message is like a death sentence for the community and its inhabitants. Because those who are accused of being terrorists are outlaws.
About 1,350 men, women and children live in San José de Apartadó. The peace village was founded in 1997 with the aim to not be involved in Colombias armed conflicts. Its inhabitants surrender any weapons, they do not pass on information to any of the warring parties and refuse to participate in any way in the civil war. Since then this has led to murders and the “disappearance” of, until now, 164 members of the community, committed by the armed groups of the organisation which are involved in the war. Until today there are no findings of the murders, although the community has given notice to the appropriate organisations. The Inter-american court for Human Rights has claimed protection measures which has not been granted.
On February 21 of this year again eight members of the community were cruelly murdered, amongst them their speaker Luis Eduardo Guerra, his life companion and his 11 year old son. Also another family with two children aged 2 and 6 were amongst the victims. But now the government has started with its message to the embassies its last hit. If the statement of support and cooperation with the guerrillas will not be taken back, a complete elimination of the peace community San José can be started with this justification.
Two inhabitants of the peace village visited the Summer University Tamera in July 2005. The ones who listen to them, cried and laughed with them can no longer accept that they can be the next victims soon. With an international public a first ring of protection could develop. The member of the Bundestag in Germany and carrier of the alternative Nobel Prize Herrmann Scheer and the organisation Eurosolar have announced to take over the patronage for this. – We ask you: take part! Participate in the below-mentioned action!
From September 21 to 26, 2005 the inhabitants of San José invite international guests to their village for a “celebration of life” to honour together the dead members and then look at a vision of a peace village model a seed of hope for Colombia. The IGF will send three co-workers to this meeting.
The Colombia-Team is thankful for any help
